Our Reception Team Are Care Navigators 

Here at the Mulberry House Surgery have asked our care navigators (receptionists) to ask a number of questions when you contact the surgery to enable you to get to the right person, first time. We call this active signposting.

We have an experienced team of clinicians who will be able to help you including:  

  • Advanced nurse practitioners
  • Paramedic practitioners
  • Pharmacists
  • Doctors
  • Practice nurses
  • Health care assistants
  • Mental health care workers
  • Health and Welfare coaches
  • Social prescribers
  • Care co-ordinators

Consultations are normally done over a phone or video call but if you need to be seen face to face the clinician will arrange that with you.  

 

Emergencies (999 and A/E)

For health emergencies such as choking, chest pain, blacking out or serious blood loss call 999 or go to the Accident and Emergency department at Southampton General hospital.  

 

Urgent Health Problems (Urgent Treatment Centre)

For breaks and sprains, minor injuries, cuts and grazes and other minor illness that are not life or limb threatening go to the Urgent Treatment Centre at the Royal South Hants hospital.  

 

Online Advice and Self Care (Online)

For advice about children’s health and during for women during pregnancy visit the Healthier together website. You can also download the Healthier together app which can guide you through your child’s illness.  Next time your child is unwell, try using our new App, developed with the Healthier Together team. If GP advice is needed, the App allows you to email us directly about your child's symptoms, and we will contact you on the same day. Download it via the Healthier Together website

 

Minor Illness (Local Pharmacy)

For minor illnesses, headaches, stomach upsets, bites and stings, constipation and many more your local pharmacist will be able to offer you local expert advice.  Find a pharmacy on the NHS website

 

Same Day Health Problems (Mulberry House Surgery Team and 111)

When you have a health problem that you think you need help with on the day:

During working hours:

  • Contact reception at Mulberry House Surgery by phone (8am – 6.30pm Mon-Fri)
  • Come to the reception in person (8.30am – 12.30pm, 1.30pm-6.30pm Mon-Fri)
  • Children – you could try the Healthier Together App (8am – 4pm Mon-Fri)

Routine Problems

Complete an eConsult (8-8.30am Monday to Friday) to tell us about a routine or long term problem you need support with.  You will be contacted by a member of the team within 24 working hours but often a lot sooner.   

 

Long Term Conditions

Please go to the Long Term Conditions Reviews page to find out more about how we will contact you for your annual of your diabetes, high blood pressure, Rheumatoid arthritis, Asthma or COPD.

 

Nurse Appointments

Book a nurse appointment the following treatments are available at Mulberry House Surgery

  • Blood test
  • Dressings
  • Cervical smears
  • Cervical swabs
  • Removal of stitches and clips
  • New patient health check
  • ECG
  • Injections – baby immunisations; contraceptive injections; prescribed injections
 

Online Appointments

Some face-to-face appointments are available online via SystmOnline, particularly appointments for cervical smears.

Your details and information are protected by the highest standards of online security, so all you need to worry about is what to do with the spare time you’ve earnt.

Our Receptionists Can Help With Any Of The Following

  • They will liaise with the hospital on your behalf to arrange an appointment
  • They can chase test results awaited from the hospital
  • They will be able to sort out some of your prescription queries
  • They can liaise with the doctor to complete forms or obtain information for you

Our practice team has a wealth of knowledge and experience – you do not always need to see a doctor.  

 

Repeat Prescription Requests

Visit our Order a Repeat Prescription page to order prescriptions or request contraception.

Repeat prescription requests take two full working days to complete. If, in exceptional circumstances, you require your prescription sooner, contact Reception and we will try to get it ready for the next day.  

 

Cancel An Appointment?

If you are not able to keep your appointment please call  and cancel as soon as possible: someone else may need to see the doctor urgently.

Health Visiting Team

The health visitors are qualified nurses who specialise in child and family health. They work in the surgery, attend family homes and have routine child health clinics for under 5 year olds.They are supported by a nursery nurses and can give advice on health matters such as childrens' sleep, behaviour, toileting and diet.

First Thursday of each month at Orchard Lane Church Hall is Baby Cafe between 12:15 and 1:15 pm. This is a weaning support session for parents that need help with weaning their child.
